Avant-Garde Streetwear

Avant-garde streetwear takes everyday street pieces, such as sweatshirts, cargo pants, tees and bombers, and rebuilds them with experimental cuts, curved paneling and deconstruction. This collection gathers the most construction-led pieces on GRIME STATE, many in color as well as black, from independent labels including XIPHEVIL, MOGONGSHE, AVINMADE and UNDERWATER.

What makes streetwear avant-garde

The base garments are familiar; the construction is not. Seams move off their usual lines, panels curve around the body and pieces detach or attach in new ways.

  • Curved and spliced paneling: saber-shaped fleece inserts, biomechanical seam lines and asymmetric legs.
  • Deconstruction: patchwork jerseys, exposed raw edges and double layers.
  • Modular parts: detachable drapes, sleeves, hoods and scarves.
  • Mixed textures: faux suede, snakeskin inserts, mesh, corduroy and loopback fleece.
  • Proportion: oversized bodies, funnel necks, and wide or flared legs.

How the labels approach it

XIPHEVIL is the core of this collection, with saber-sleeve sweatshirts, rivet-studded patchwork jerseys and contrast-panel utility shorts in sage, coffee, ice, yellow and purple. MOGONGSHE adds detachable drape panels to wide-leg jeans. AVINMADE shapes cargo jeans with curved, blade-like seams, and UNDERWATER splices skeleton-shaped raw-edge panels onto a cotton hooded jacket and sweatpants.

Wearing it day to day

Let one sculptural piece lead. A curved-panel sweatshirt works with straight black trousers; draped or paneled jeans work with a plain tee. Because many pieces here come in color, keep the rest of the outfit tonal so the construction stays visible. Detachable parts let one garment change shape: remove a drape, hood or sleeve to take a piece from statement to everyday.
